Streaming KCBX

In addition to listening to KCBX on terrestrial radio, we also offer a number of ways to listen to our broadcasts on your computer and other internet-connected devices.

Smart Speakers

You can listen to KCBX on your smart speakers, like Amazon's Echo speakers and Google's Nest speakers, or any device using Amazon's Alexa or the Google Assistant services.

To play KCBX, just say the prompt phrase for your device, like "Alexa..." or "Hey, Google..." followed by "...play KCBX."

Alternatively, you can say "Alexa...play NPR" if your device is having trouble understanding when you say "KCBX." In this case, you may need to tell the NPR service what station you want to listen to by providing the call letters or your zip code. You should only need to do this one time.

If you want to change the station NPR is playing, you can say "Alexa...ask NPR to change my station." This will make NPR ask for the station call letters or zip code again.

There are multiple ways to listen to KCBX using your phone or tablet.

Your Web Browser

Using your device's web browser, navigate to KCBX.org. The live broadcast player is available at the bottom of the screen on your phone or tablet, and at the top of the screen on your computer. Press the arrow to begin playing our live stream.

You can also listen to alternative programming on KCBX2. Click on the soundwave icon on the right to open a station selection window.

Listening to KCBX in your web browser also allows you to listen to local music programs and talk shows on demand. To access the on-demand feature, use the navigation menu and go to Programs — On Demand.

NPR Apps From Your App Store

NPR provides multiple apps to listen to KCBX, NPR news stories, and podcasts. Search "NPR" in your app store.

The NPR app is available on Apple devices and provides NPR and KCBX stories and access to both KCBX and KCBX2 broadcast streams.

NPR News is an app for Android phone users. It provides news stories from NPR and KCBX's live stream.

The NPR One app is available on both Apple and Android devices, and provides a curated collection of stories and podcast episodes from NPR and KCBX. You can listen to the custom collection or access the live KCBX broadcast stream from the "My NPR" link at the bottom of the window.

Apple Music

With the Apple Music app, you can tune in to KCBX without a subscription. Open the app on your device, the:

  1. Go to Search.
  2. Search for the radio station by its name, call sign, frequency, or nickname.
  3. Tap or click the radio station to listen to it live.

You can also ask Siri to play a radio station.

There are a number of other apps that you can use, Tune In and Radio Garden. Note: KCBX does not support or guarantee the safety of using third party apps. Some third party apps may be ad-supported.
