California governor pushes for 5 million zero-emission cars

Governor Jerry Brown issued an executive order Friday to boost the number of zero-emission vehicles on California roads.

His plan calls for 5 million electric vehicles in California by 2030. That’s almost 15 times the amount of EV cars on the road today in the state.

Still, Mary Nichols with the California Air Resources Control Board says the proposal is doable.

“We’re also beginning to now see a really acute need for infrastructure to support those vehicles," Nichols. "This is the right time to align our transportation infrastructure with our vehicle investments.”

The Governor also announced a $2.5 billion-dollar action that'll boost the number of rebates available. It will dramatically bolster the number of charging stations statewide from 14,000 to 250,000 and an increase from 1,500 to 10,000 high-speed charging stations.
