Central Coast Voices: SLO Village, Revolutionizing Aging

Broadcast date: 8/30/2018

A revolution for aging better is happening in California.? Baby Boomers are redefining the aging process. Today, over 90% of seniors in our community want to continue to live independently in their own home. More importantly, they want to stay connected to their community, and to continue to do the things that are important in their lives. Many cannot do this without some type of support system, and in the coming years, this system will become taxed as the Baby Boomers age, and resources become strained.

Join host Kris Kington-Barker as she speaks with Dave Kuykendall, SLO Village Board President, Tauria Linala, Board Member, Charlotte Dickson, Executive Director of Village Movement California, and Elizabeth Abrahams, SLO Village Member as they discuss the village movement and talk about how San Luis Obispo Village is engaging seniors in all aspects of community life while providing services to make it all work.

Central Coast Voices is sponsored by ACTION for Healthy Communities in collaboration with KCBX and made possible through underwriting by Joan Gellert-Sargen.

Kris Kington-Barker is co-host of Central Coast Voices, heard every Thursday on KCBX from 1:00—12:00 p.m. Kris has worked in healthcare fields ranging from mental health to hospital administration, and has served as a volunteer and board member for many Central Coast non-profit organizations.
