Central Coast Voices: Smart decisions

Broadcast date: 4/12/2018

Talking about your end of life wishes can be difficult but making sure your loved ones and doctors know what kind of medical treatment you want is a very important and necessary step in receiving quality and compassionate medical care if or when the need should arise. National Healthcare Decisions Day is dedicated to helping Americans start conversations about advance care planning, and exists to inspire, educate and empower the public and providers to take action, because avoiding these decisions can lead to unwanted care, ineffective treatments and both patient and family suffering.

Join Kris Kington Barker as she speaks with Karen M. Wyatt, MD, a hospice physician and host of End-of-Life University, an online interview series on all aspects of the end-of-life. They will be discussing advanced care planning and the importance of ensuring that all adults with decision-making capacity in the United States have the information and opportunity to communicate and document their healthcare decisions. They will also ask you to join the 10 Day Challenge to get your wishes in writing.

Central Coast Voices is sponsored by ACTION for Healthy Communities in collaboration with KCBX and made possible through underwriting by Joan Gellert-Sargen.

Kris Kington-Barker is co-host of Central Coast Voices, heard every Thursday on KCBX from 1:00—12:00 p.m. Kris has worked in healthcare fields ranging from mental health to hospital administration, and has served as a volunteer and board member for many Central Coast non-profit organizations.
