Connecting People and Homes

Broadcast date: 5/26/16

The purpose of HomeShareSLO is connecting people and homes.

There are over 37,500 residents of San Luis Obispo County over 65 and 10,000 of these residents live alone. HomeShare helps match home providers (people with an extra room) with home seekers (people who need a room). It is a way to meet the housing challenges faced by seniors and others. It helps provide affordable housing with existing resource, allow for aging in place, build community and empower community members

Join host Kris Kington Barker as she speaks with Anne Wyatt, housing policy planner and former SLO County planning commissioner and the HomeShareSLO Program Coordinator, Jo Oliver, RN and HomeShareSLO Board President, and Judith Ottmar, retired English teacher, and 20 year home sharer as they discuss how HomeShare can help bridge the gap between needs and available resource on the Central Coast and elsewhere.

Central Coast Voices is sponsored by ACTION for Healthy Communities in collaboration with KCBX and made possible through underwriting by Joan Gellert-Sargen.

Kris Kington-Barker is co-host of Central Coast Voices, heard every Thursday on KCBX from 1:00—12:00 p.m. Kris has worked in healthcare fields ranging from mental health to hospital administration, and has served as a volunteer and board member for many Central Coast non-profit organizations.
