Rocket launches successfully from Vandenberg Air Force Base

Vandenberg Space Force Base

The Atlas V rocket on Vandenberg Air Force Base launched successfully this morning.

The rocket carries the WorldView-4 imaging and data satellite into orbit.

The launch was originally set for September, but was rescheduled because the Canyon Fire was burning on base property at the time.

The launch decision authority, Col. Chris Moss, says the launch was the result of extraordinary teamwork between the 30th Space Wing and our United Launch Alliance.

"What this team has accomplished in such a short time is absolutely amazing," Moss said.

The World View imaging is so advanced it can discern the make of a car from its orbit in space.
