A Los Angeles-based grocery chain may expand its presence on the Central Coast in the coming months. Smart & Final, LLC has put in its bid for 27 Haggen stores in California, including six Central Coast locations.
Haggen announced Monday they are asking the Bankruptcy Court to determine how and when their stores can be sold.
Last month, the grocery chain said they will close all its California stores to focus on its core stores in the Pacific Northwest.
Gelson's Market has also bid for several stores in Southern California. Both grocers' purchase agreements for the Haggen locations now head to the Bankruptcy Court for approval.
