Snowball Earth
Snowball Earth
Around 700 million years ago, Earth was covered in ice at least twice, from pole to equator: this is called Earth's SNOWBALL STATE. Prof. Macdonald, UCSB Dept. of Earth Science, will discuss this state and the Great Unconformity, or gap in our rock record and the origin of animals at that time, including proposed models for glaciers and biological evolution of the period.
