San Bernardino County man facing felony charges following Amtrak stabbing

Paso Robles Police Department

A fight on board Amtrak's Coast Starlight this weekend ended with a man stabbed in the face with a fork and another man taken into police custody.

The Paso Robles Police Department says 47-year-old Michael Tapp of San Bernardino County is now being held at the San Luis Obispo County Jail facing a felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon.

The victim, a 57-year-old from Santa Cruz County, was treated at the scene. Police say he physically restrained Tapp following the attack.

The train was traveling northbound Saturday evening when it arrived in Paso Robles and officers were able to board.

Lieutenant Timothy Murphy says the motive for the attack is not known, but it does appear to be an isolated incident.
