Endowment Fund

KCBX went on the air with its first broadcast in July of 1975. It came into being through the initial visionary efforts of Steve Urbani and Steve Burrell and the subsequent grass-roots efforts of hundreds of community volunteers.

Consultants in the public broadcasting industry initially doubted that a public radio station could survive in such a relatively small community.

Secure KCBX's Future

Now, nearly four decades later, KCBX continues to broadcast valuable radio programming to California's Central Coast. With the support of hundreds of volunteers, thousands of generous annual subscribers and a dedicated staff, KCBX has grown and thrived.

Over those four decades, governmental support through grants from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting has increased and decreased significantly.  Clearly, no one has a crystal ball capable of predicting what Public Radio’s support will be in the future and this uncertainty concerns us.  KCBX's Board of Directors has established a local, permanent endowment fund to address this need.

Gifts to the fund are added to the principle to be invested for long-term growth. Revenues generated from the principle will be available to supplement KCBX's annual fundraising revenues and create a more stable source of funding for future development.

Cash gifts to the fund are, of course, welcome at any time. Gifts of property or appreciated securities also are tax-wise ways of making substantial gifts. Many KCBX listeners have also made a commitment to the KCBX Endowment Fund by including KCBX in their estate planning - a way of continuing the support they provided while alive long after they have gone.

If you are interested in making a gift to the KCBX Endowment Fund, please contact KCBX Development Director Chris McBride at 800-549-8855, or by email at chris@kcbx.org.
