Jerry Conway was already a big fan of public radio and enjoyed sharing music with friends when he heard that KCBX was just starting up in San Luis Obispo in 1975. He was there from the beginning as a volunteer and founded Pickin' Up The Tempo, which he hosted from 1975 until 1992. Every Tuesday evening he walked from his house on Peach Street to the KCBX studio across the street from the Mission, carrying a stack of records from his large collection. Jerry originally described the music on Pickin' Up The Tempo as "progressive country and a whole lot more."
After a 27 year absence from the KCBX airwaves, Jerry returned in 2019 as a volunteer host on Across the Tracks, which he co-hosts with Erin Inglish. He looks forward to sharing an eclectic mix of Americana and related music with you every other week.
