Asset Development, the personal kind rather than the financial kind, has become a key tool in building healthy, caring, and responsible educational communities for our children. Fred Munroe is joined this week by Richard Enfield and Karen Aydelott of the Asset Development Network, talking about the network’s upcoming workshops for parents, students, and the community. Studies have shown the more assets young people have, the less likely they are to engage in a wide range of high-risk behaviors and the more likely they are to thrive.

As millions of baby boomers age across the country, it will be vital for our communities to have plans in place to provide for the needs of our older population. Area Agencies on Aging are charged with addressing issues facing older people -- like long term care, transportation, legal assistance, and lots more. On the next Central Coast Voices -- how the "Silver Tsunami" will affect us all. Bullying happens at all levels of education -- and is often related to ethnicity, disabilities and LGBT issues. Fred Munroe talks with two local women who have combined efforts to raise awareness about bullying, along with ways to increase understanding of the problem. Elizabeth Meyer, Assistant Professor of Education at Cal Poly and Erin Echols, Coordinator of Cal Poly's Pride & Multi-Cultural Centers talk about bullying and their upcoming public workshop at Cal Poly.

Kris Kington-Barker and Fred Munroe talk with Janice Fong Wolf, Director of Grants and Programs for the San Luis Obispo County Community Foundation, and Susan Hughes, Executive Director of "First 5" San Luis Obipso County. Janice and Susan will discuss the role of the consortium, Action for Healthy Communities, and how it pools the expertise of its member organizations to build a clear picture about the immediate and long-term critical needs of our communities.
