Fast-moving fire prompts mandatory evacuations east of Santa Margarita

UPDATE 6-27-17 AT 1:00 P.M.: The Hill Fireis 40 to 45 percent contained, with an estimated 1500 acres burned since Monday afternoon. 

The San Luis Obispo County's Office of Emergency Services is listing the latest Hill Fire information on its website here. One structure burned, but CalFire spokesperson Chris Elms could not confirm yet if it was a residential or commercial building. Elms said firefighting personnel have come from across the state to help put out the blaze. The cause of the fire is still being investigated, although clues point to a possible car fire as having sparked nearby vegetation. KCBX News is on the scene and will have a full update late Tuesday afternoon.

UPDATE 6-27-17 AT 8:30 A.M.: According to CalFire, the Hill Fire is now at 1200+ acres, and is 40 percent contained.

UPDATE AT 12:00 A.M.: CalFire tweets "#HillIC approx 1200 acres 10% contained. Crews working through the night. All evac orders and road closures remain in effect."

UPDATE AT 9:30 P.M.: According to Caltrans, Highway 58 is closed from Parkhill Road to Creston Road.

UPDATE AT 9:00 P.M.: Mandatory evacuations continue in San Luis Obispo County as CalFire and several other regional agencies fight a brush fire burning about ten miles east of Santa Margarita. Over a few hours late Monday afternoon and evening, the fire grew from 175 acres to over 1200 acres, by some reports.

The county's office of emergency services and sheriff's department ordered residents on Parkhill Road and surrounding areas to evacuate. The evacuation orders cover the area of Huer Heuro Road to Highway 58, including Black Mountain Resort, Blue and Blue Ridge Roads, east to Shooting Start Road and south to Golden Pond Way, including Random Canyon Way. 

According to CalFire's informational webpage about the Hill Fire, it started at 3:30 p.m. at the corner of Park Hill Road and La Entrada. 

The American Red Cross has opened an evacuation center at Santa Margarita Elementary School, located at 22070 H Street in Santa Margarita.
