UPDATED August 26, 2019: Flights at the Santa Barbara Airport have resumed after a plane made an emergency crash landing there late Sunday night. Federal authorities have been on the scene since early Monday morning to investigate the cause of the crash. Flights were cancelled for 19 hours following the crash.
Santa Barbara Airport spokesperson Deanna Zachrisson said air travel was affected due to the crash’s proximity to airport taxiways and runways.
“There was some debris along the runway when it came down that we have to leave in place until the investigators can take a look at it; we have not been able to have arrivals or departures today,” Zachrisson said.
The private Lockheed C-130 Hercules plane was on its way from Santa Maria to Phoenix, Arizona when it attempted an emergency landing just after 10 p.m. Sunday night and caught fire. All seven passengers on board were evacuated and uninjured.
Zachrisson says the debris has been cleared but it could be a while before the plane is removed from the field.
