Former San Luis Obispo County Congressman Kevin McCarthy (R-Bakersfield) is the favorite to become the next Majority Leader of the House of Representatives.

He now has some competition however from Idaho Republican and Tea Party favorite Raul Labrador.

According to NPR, Labrador is likely a long shot to get the job when the party votes in a secret ballot next week.

McCarthy once represented California's 22nd congressional district which included a large portion of San Luis Obispo County. But, after recent redistricting, McCarthy now serves the 23rd district which includes portions of Kern, Tulare, and Los Angeles Counties.
