Safe and Sane Fireworks will be sold again this year within the City of Lompoc for the Fourth of July holiday, following a vote last night by the city council.
An emergency ordinance to ban their sale through the end of 2014 was placed on the agenda over concerns for an extremely dangerous fire season.
The vote failed three to two.
Lompoc legalized Safe and Sane fireworks last year. A portion of the proceed help pay for enforcement of illegal fireworks.
Sales also help pay for the city's official fireworks display, which is held this year on July 5.
