Inmate death at San Luis Obispo County Jail forces lockdown

The San Luis Obispo County Jail was on lockdown this Friday as investigators looked into the death of an inmate whose body was found Friday morning.

The deceased is identified as Timothy Janowicz, arrested in Atascadero last November on drugs and weapons charges. Janowicz is the third SLO County Jail inmate to die this year. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.

Earlier this spring, 28-year-old Josey Meche died from "a methamphetamine-induced heart attack with contributing factors of hyperthermia and a fatty infiltration of the heart muscle," according to the sheriff's office. The manner of death was ruled as accidental.

In January, 35-year-old Rudy Silva complained of being ill and was transferred to Sierra Vista Medical Center and died four days later on Jan 27. The cause of death was listed as respiratory failure due to septic shock as a consequence of influenza A and staphylococcus.
