Issues & Ideas: Under 40 focus, aerospace history and saving whales

On this week’s episode of Issues & Ideas: we hear from three different San Luis Obispo groups focused on helping those under the age of 40 get more civically engaged. SLOu40, the SLO Scoop and YPNG are all working to provide community engagement for the under-40 set.

We learn about a project by UC Santa Barbara scientists to create a high-tech sound system aimed at preventing deadly collisions between whales and ships. And we talk with the former chief historian at NASA to understand the importance of documenting the country’s aerospace program.

Brian Reynolds is a contributor to Issues & Ideas, a weekly show that brings listeners a wide variety of perspectives on KCBX. Brian was born in Visalia, CA, and spent many years in the Central Valley before leaving for college at UC Berkeley. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from UCB, and two Master’s degrees (UCLA and CSU Chico…Library Science and Public Administration). He lived abroad for two years in Spanish-speaking countries (Spain and Nicaragua) and is fluent in Spanish. He spent his career as a public librarian, serving as a Library Director for over 30 years. He retired from the Director position at the SLO County Library in 2013.
