The national average according to AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge Report is $3.43 for a gallon of regular unleaded.
Metro areas in California however sit about where they did at this same time last year, with an average price of $3.85.
On the always fuel pricey Central Coast, travelers will find higher than the state average rates as usual. Here's the breakdown:
- $3.89 - Salinas
- $3.97 - San Luis Obispo/Paso Robles
- $3.89 - Santa Barbara
Only San Francisco comes in with a higher average price than San Luis Obispo, at an even $4.00.
The lowest priced gas in the nation can be found in Greenville, South Carolina at $3.14 a gallon.
