Paving the Way Forward

Broadcast date: 8/6/2015

The Central Coast relies heavily on roads, bridges, highways and transit systems to get people to work and school, take goods to and from our area, and bring travelers to see what local treasures we have to offer.

Unfortunately California’s transportation infrastructure is in desperate need of repair, and without a solid investment in its future, we cannot guarantee that it will continue to support our needs.  Lawmakers locally, as well as at the state and federal level, are currently looking at legislation that could make a major difference here on the Central Coast and elsewhere. This funding is not only important to the economic health of our communities, but its physical safety as well.   In 2015, the American Road & Transportation Builders Association(ARTBA) found more than 61,000 of the country's bridges were structurally deficient, putting drivers and passengers at risk.

Join host Kris Kington-Barker as she speaks with guests with the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments(SLOCOG), Ron De Carli, Executive Director  and  James Worthley, a Senior Transportation Planner, as well as SarkesKhachek, a Senior Transportation Planner with The Santa Barbara County Association of Governments(SBCAG) as they discuss transportation needs on the Central Coast and the importance of adequate funding to rebuild and maintain California’s transportation infrastructure in order to sustain our economy and safety.

Central Coast Voices is sponsored by ACTION for Healthy Communities in collaboration with KCBX and made possible through underwriting by Joan Gellert-Sargen.

Kris Kington-Barker is co-host of Central Coast Voices, heard every Thursday on KCBX from 1:00—12:00 p.m. Kris has worked in healthcare fields ranging from mental health to hospital administration, and has served as a volunteer and board member for many Central Coast non-profit organizations.
