The U.S. military is planning a missile launch this week from the Central Coast's Vandenberg Air Force Base.

The Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile will be unarmed, according to the Air Force Global Strike Command, and the purpose of the test launch "is to validate and verify the effectiveness, readiness, and accuracy of the weapon system."

The missile is slated to launch sometime between midnight and six a.m. Wednesday from the base 12 miles northwest of Lompoc. Those who wish to view the launch on the base should head to the Reagan Site. The launch pad is identified as LF-10.

The missile is the fourth to be launched this year out of Vandenberg AFB.
