United Way’s ‘CPR’

Broadcast date: 10/23/2014

The United Way of San Luis Obispo is focused on creating real, lasting change in the community through what they consider to be the building blocks of life – education, income and health. They believe that if everyone can give a little, we as a community can accomplish a lot. Just this year, the United Way awarded over $80,000 to 17 local nonprofit organizations through its Community Impact Fund grants, focusing on programs with the ability to create true structural change, drawing attention to the root causes of community problems. Emphasizing a focus on ‘CPR’: compassion, prevention and responsibility, the United Way believes these components are vital in creating lasting change.

Host Fred Munroe is joined by guests Rick London, CEO United Way of San Luis Obispo County, Erica Stewart, COO United Way of San Luis Obispo County, Ryan Caldwell, CFP® Partner, R.E. Wacker Wealth Advisor, a Board Member, as well as Treasurer of United Way of San Luis Obispo County, and Co-Director and Producer, Harry Gantz, to discuss United Way’s CPR: Living Compassionately, Thinking Preventatively and Acting Responsibly.

United Way’s Financial Literacy Money Talksprogram is about thinking “Preventatively,” focused on helping youth achieve their potential. Money Talks provides teens with financial literacy tools they can carry into adulthood. The HBO Documentary American Winter, at the Palm Theater on November 6, 2014, de-stigmatizes the plight of homelessness and portrays the 2-1-1 call service as a useful resource and underscores the need to live “Compassionately.”   Make a Difference Day, Saturday October 25, 2014, is a national day of service and underscores our need to act “Responsibly.”  It is organized locally in conjunction with Cal Poly.

Central Coast Voices is sponsored by ACTION for Healthy Communities in collaboration with KCBX.

Fred Munroe is a co-host of the KCBX talk show Central Coast Voices, heard every Thursday afternoon from 1:00-2:00. Fred has successfully divided his time as a local entrepreneur, political leader, and communicator. He owns and manages two local firms addressing personal travel planning and public transportation; Travel With Fred and Ridership Development Consultants.
