Skydiver critically injured in Lompoc

A skydiver was being treated for life-threatening injuries Monday afternoon at the Cottage Hospital Trauma Center in Santa Barbara.

The Lompoc Fire Department says the skydiver hit the H Street Bridge, just north of the Lompoc Airport around 11:00 a.m. Monday. The bridge is where Highway 1 crosses the Santa Ynez River.

The Santa Barbara Independent reported Tuesday morning that the victim was from the Los Angeles area and had jumped out of a plane operated by Skydive Santa Barbara.

The parachutist was first taken to Lompoc Valley Medical Center and then flown by helicopter to the trauma center in Santa Barbara.
