UPDATE: Body of Carpinteria Man found in local Salt Marsh identififed

UPDATE: October 8, 2014 at 2:05 p.m.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office released the identity of the Carpinteria resident whose body was found in the Carpinteria Salt Marsh on Saturday morning.

The decedent is 63-year-old Michael George Ornelas. 

"Following a criminal and a coroner’s investigation, the Sheriff’s Office has determined that Ornelas died from an apparent suicide," Spokesperson Kelly Hoover said in a message to the media.

Investigators in Santa Barbara County say they're working to piece together clues related to the death of a Carpinteria man in his 60s. 

The man's body was found Saturday morning in the Carpinteria Salt Marsh.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office says the body was found by a passerby around 10:30 a.m.

Sheriff's deputies responded to the area along with Carpinteria Summerland Fire District personnel. Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Search and Rescue personnel also assisted with the investigation.

The person's name is not being released at this time due to the active investigation.
