CSU officials say virtual learning to continue into fall terms

Cal Poly students may not be heading back to the San Luis Obispo campus in the fall, as there will be no in-person classes at California State University’s 23 schools next semester, according to the system's chancellor.

In yet another push to make higher education more accessible in California, a bill filed in the state Legislature would extend the state’s tuition-free college guarantee to four years — and beyond community college — for some students, making it one of the most generous programs in the nation.

Solar farm under construction to power Cal Poly campus

San Luis Obispo's California Polytechnic University is installing a 4.5 megawatt solar farm. The farm is being constructed on 18 acres of agricultural land just northwest of the Cal Poly campus. Upon completion, the farm will generate nearly 25 percent of the university's total energy needs.

Cal Poly students who signed up to live in a private bedroom this coming school year won’t be living alone after all. The incoming class is the projected largest in Cal Poly’s history, and that means more students will need housing in an already tight market.

The trustees of the California State University system--comprised of 23 universities including Cal Poly and CSU Channel Islands--voted Wednesday to raise tuition five percent despite strong opposition from students.

A ceremony Wednesday morning marked the opening of the Central Coast Cyber Forensics Lab, a group project of Cal Poly and the California State University system, along with the county DA’s office and the California Military Department. The lab will serve both as a classroom for future cybersecurity experts and a high-tech evidence collection facility.
