June 19 is Juneteenth, also known as Juneteenth Independence Day or Freedom Day. It's a holiday that commemorates the June 19, 1865 announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas and signified the emancipation of slaves throughout the United States. It came over two years after President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation.

New rules are in effect this week, banning campfires at all National Forest sites throughout the Central Coast.

Andrew Madsen with the Los Padres National Forest says campgrounds are expected to be at or near capacity for the Labor Day holiday weekend. The unit includes some of the most popular destinations within the state, including Big Sur along the coast.

The state's ongoing drought pushed fire restrictions up to a Level IV on Tuesday, which could come as a surprise to some campers.

As travelers head into the Labor Day holiday weekend this year, gas prices are among the lowest seen for this period since 2010, nationally.

The national average according to AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge Report is $3.43 for a gallon of regular unleaded.

Metro areas in California however sit about where they did at this same time last year, with an average price of $3.85.

On the always fuel pricey Central Coast, travelers will find higher than the state average rates as usual. Here's the breakdown:
