FINAL UPDATE: PG&E ended the alert at 6:45 p.m. on Friday night, saying air quality in the affected reactor was restored.

UPDATE 7/28/17 3:20 p.m.: The county's emergency operation center says "the plant is in a safe condition and remains at full power. There is no radiological release at this time."

The Santa Barbara Municipal Airport is getting ready to begin $3.37 million in safety upgrades, now that it has received a $3,026,481 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The project includes new runway lighting, fences to keep wildlife away from moving aircraft, and improvements to help maintain the pavement's structural integrity.

Airport Director Hazel Johns says most passengers likely won't notice the changes, but they are important in bringing the airport up to current standards.

The State of California is giving San Luis Obispo County a $192,000 grant to reduce the number of traffic-related fatalities on local roads.

The money will target pedestrian and bike safety, as well as child passengers, and alcohol and drug outreach.

Kathleen Karlee is with SLO County Public Health and says her team is already meeting to work on the top target areas.

Santa Barbara Police Department

City Police in Santa Barbara will be strictly enforcing bicycle laws in the downtown area Tuesday and Wednesday. 

Peter Brown the City's Mobility Coordinator says this targeted enforcement comes as a response to the number of bicycle collisions and is part of a larger city initiative to promote public safety.
