Central Coast to join global event in rallying for science

The March for Science is taking place on Saturday, April 22. In what is now a global event, scientists and those who support science-based evidence will be hitting the streets in mass marches, similar to the Women’s March on January 21. In a mission statement, organizers say the event “champions robustly funded and publicly communicated science as a pillar of human freedom and prosperity.” 

Pacific Wildlife Care

Pacific Wildlife Care is situated in a non-descript building behind the old PG&E power plant in Morro Bay, California. But, anywhere wounded or endangered wildlife are found on the Central Coast they are just a phone call away from rescue and rehabilitation. The organization rescues more than 3,000 wild animals, representing more than 200 different species annually.

The 16-year-old boy accused of human trafficking in San Luis Obispo County this week will be tried as an adult. District Attorney Dan Dow says it's at his discretion to have Nikko Anaya of Manteca face adult charges and can do so under Proposition 21, which was approved by voters in 2000.

Investigators say the 15-year-old victim—a girl from Manteca—was sold for sex acts over the course of a week in Santa Cruz, Pismo Beach, and San Luis Obispo.

Three other adults are also facing charges as part of this trafficking case.
