A Cal Poly program is helping combat human trafficking. Staff from the university’s California Cybersecurity Institute (CCI) recently met with law enforcement officers from across the state to demonstrate how to spot signs of human trafficking operations in places like massage parlors. 

SafeHouse San Francisco offers hope and safe refuge

Jessica Li, Executive Director of SafeHouse in San Francisco talks about the tragic life of homeless prostitutes, often dependent on drug habits, years of abuse, violence, incest, and scorned by family and society.

Li explains how SafeHouse serves as a harbor of refuge. And the women are guided through counseling, nutrition education, money management, computer competency, and vocational guidance classes. 

The San Luis Obispo County District Attorney filed charges Thursday against a San Francisco man for raping a minor this summer in Cayucos.

Richard Brooks, 38, is in custody and charged with 16 counts including forcible rape and sodomy of an unconscious 17-year-old girl.

The most serious crime leveled against Brooks is that of Human Trafficking of a Minor for a Sex Act, which carries a possible 15-years-to-life sentence in state prison.
