The US Forest Service is taking additional public comment this month on a controversial plan that will relax permitting for new logging and forest management projects.

More than 100 million trees have died in California since 2010, according to data released Friday from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Two-thirds - or 62 million - have died just in the past year.

UPDATE: Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 5:46 p.m.

Containment of the Canyon Fire burning on Vandenberg Air Force Base (VAFB) in Santa Barbara County was growing Wednesday. In addition, VAFB officials said growth was slowing.
