Project to revitalize Laguna Lake begins this week in San Luis Obispo

City of San Luis Obispo

The City of San Luis Obispo begins the first stage this week of a highly-anticipated project to revitalize a local lake which went completely dry this past summer.

Last week, the City set in motion phase one of the Laguna Lake Dredging and Management Project, awarding a contract to a Central Coast engineering consulting firm to design project proposals and offer how it could be paid for.

Bob Hill is the City's Natural Resources Manager and said they're asking the firm to propose several variations based on lake level at the time of dredging.

"The ideal site conditions for the a dredging project would be to have the lake be nearly full. Then of course, if we are to entertain a dry excavation-type project, it would need to be totally dry in the area where we're working," said Hill.

Hill says they hope to report back to City Council with the proposals by early summer.
