Construction is underway on a new distribution center for the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County.

The move is estimated to save the non-profit as much as $400,000 annually by having one centralized location in the City of San Luis Obispo.

Currently the organization operates two facilities— in Oceano and one in Paso Robles.

Wendy Lewis is the Coalition's COO and said Friday that the project was approved near the first of the year and has been fast-tracked ever since.

"It's just going to make such a huge difference in our operations," said Lewis. "The efficiencies its going to create from not having duplication of overhead, and just having all of our team under one roof—we can not wait."

The official groundbreaking took place on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at its new Kendall Road location.
