The Central Coast and California’s water situation is a source of passion for one member of Cal Poly’s Sociology Department.

Assistant Professor Ryan Alaniz is recently back from Washington D.C. where he was tapped to help shape national policy on water issues. He attended the White House Water Summit with other leaders in this field.

Alaniz was invited to the event after submitting a policy brief to the National Security Council.

The professor and researcher also organized the Disaster by Drought Summit last fall on the Cal Poly campus, a forum for looking at ways to better address water accessibility and climate change.
