A highly-charged California Coastal Commission meeting in Morro Bay Wednesday has city leaders planning for large crowds and traffic congestion.

Initially the Inn at Morro Bay was hosting the Commission hearing, but with media outlets and protestors expected to swarm the small coastal town, Wednesday's venue has been changed to the City's Community Center.

Sam Taylor is the Morro Bay Deputy City Manager and said as many as 500 people from throughout the state are expected to be in attendance.

He said several organized groups have clarified with the city appropriate locations to gather and protest.

"We want everyone to be safe. But in the meantime, it is fairly low-key in terms of the traffic," said Taylor. "We know that it's just going to be a little bit crowded."

The issue drawing so many people is a vote on whether to dismiss the commission's executive director Dr. Charles Lester.

The meeting will be held at the Inn at Morro Bay Thursday and Friday.
