A message from Frank Lanzone:
You’ve probably heard about President Trump’s proposed budget. In its current form, it would cut all funds to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). Funding for CPB makes up about .01% of the federal budget and is a vital source of funding for many public media stations across the country, including KCBX.
What would this really mean to KCBX? We probably won’t disappear from your radio dial, your screens or your speakers, but our reporting of fact-checked news is not possible without a perse revenue base, including federal funding for local stations. In addition to providing KCBX with about 10% of our operating revenue, CPB pays for distribution, copyright fees, planning and research on behalf of all public radio stations. Without CPB funding, KCBX would need to raise an additional $200,000 each year.
What can you do now?
You can voice your support for continued CPB funding by signing the petition at Protect My Public Media. Protect My Public Media is a collaboration of local public radio and television stations, national distributors, producers, viewers, listeners and others who support a strong public media in the United States.
You’ve supported us for more than 40 years, and with your continued support, the news and music we provide will continue to thrive. I’m optimistic, because I believe that you, our members and listeners, will rally in support of the vital service you rely on every day.
Sincerely,
Frank Lanzone
