Ecologistics and SLO Climate Coalition will co-host a free webinar on “Battery Energy Storage Systems: Law, safety and technology - what’s happening?”

“We have heard from the community that people are concerned about battery fires in the wake of the Moss Landing disaster,” said Ecologistics board member, Michael Jencks. “With the completion of the Caballero Energy Storage project in Nipomo and the potential for a storage facility in Morro Bay, we are bringing in experts who can provide some information to our communities.”

The panel will discuss how the state has responded to the issue with the adoption of SB 283, what different technologies are available and how communities can promote safety. Featured speakers are:
—Kara Woodruff, District Director and Senior Policy Advisor for Senator John Laird
—Captain Richard Birt, founder of Solar and Fire Education, an organization that teaches how to mitigate structure fires involving energy storage systems
—Elena Krieger, Senior Director of Research and Policy at Just Solutions, a national nonprofit focused on equitable energy and climate solutions.

The goal of this webinar is to give residents and city leaders the information we need to make informed decisions on these facilities being constructed in our communities.
