Elena Yu: Weaving Ephemera

Elena Yu: Weaving Ephemera
UCSB Library presents an art installation by artist Elena Yu, exploring histories of the Ethnic and Gender Studies Collection (EGSC) and space in celebration of its 30th anniversary.
In this exhibition, Yu reinterpreted those same dust jackets and other ephemera to make curtains. Some details are obscured or blurred, echoing how collective histories shift with time and institutional changes. By abstracting, enlarging, and translating the dust jackets and other documents relating to the history of the EGSC onto curtains, the artist extends the lifespan of both the objects and the histories they remain connected to.
Exhibit runs October 1, 2025 to March 13, 2026.
