Food and Green Waste - Not Waste but a Resource

Food and Green Waste - Not Waste but a Resource
Join the Los Osos Valley Garden Club for a presentation by Thomas Gratz of Hitachi Zosen Inova (HZI). Gratz will discuss how to utilize organic waste as a resource to produce renewable energy and beneficial soil amendments, instead of disposing of it in landfills. Gratz was involved in the development and commissioning of the San Lus Obispo Kompogas Facility as well as other projects in the U.S. HZI's state-of-the-art anaerobic digestion facility in SLO has been converting organic waste into carbon-neutral biogas and high-grade natural compost since September 2018. Gratz will explain the differences between composting and anaerobic digestion, which is the process used at the SLO Facility.
A member talk on Home Composting will precede the presentation.
