Two young German writers on a cross-country tour of the USA stop here to share their writing, culture and art of storytelling at a free public reading (in English). A reception and continued discussion follows to celebrate the continuous student exchange since 1948 between San Luis Obispo High School and 'Ebelu' in Stuttgart.
This project of the Goethe-Institut, in cooperation with the German Literature Institute Leipzig, is a nationwide campaign to strengthen transatlantic friendship. "What makes this tour stop so meaningful is that dialogue isn't staying in the big cities—it's coming to our rural county where the conversation can be personal," says Amy Kardel, event co-organizer, with the support of the History Center, German School Committee and Rotary Youth Exchange District 5240.
