Alternative Fuels Here and Now

Alternative vehicles are becoming increasingly mainstream now that infrastructure improvements and lowered costs have made the benefits of improved fuel economy, increased energy security, and decreased environmental and health risks harder to dismiss.  In 2013 the Vehicle Technologies Market report found more than 500,000 hybrid vehicles were sold, and the sale of electric vehicles increased to more than 100,000 units sold. There are currently at least 24 different types of electric vehicles on sale or in production. And in the United States more than 20,835 electric vehicle charging stations are in use. California is home to the greatest concentration of alternative fuel vehicles in the U.S.

Host Fred Munroe is joined by guests Michael Chiacos, Energy and Transportation Manager at the Community Environmental Council, Arjun Sarkar, Alternative Fuels Coordinator at UC Santa Barbara and Board Member of the Central Coast Clean Cities Coalition, and David Reese, President and Co-Founder of Cal Poly’s Future Fuels Clubto discuss alternative vehicles and the benefits they offer our communities.

Central Coast Voices is sponsored by ACTION for Healthy Communities in collaboration with KCBX.

Fred Munroe is a co-host of the KCBX talk show Central Coast Voices, heard every Thursday afternoon from 1:00-2:00. Fred has successfully divided his time as a local entrepreneur, political leader, and communicator.
