Job Opening: Reporter/Midday Announcer/Producer

This position has been filled.

Position summary:  Serves as weekday midday announcer/producer and master control operator during on-air shifts.  Produces local issues programs. Files daily news reports and features. Assists and fills in for News Director.  Works under the supervision of the Program Director and the News Director.  Receives some assignments from the Operations Manager.  This is a full-time position. The pay is commensurate with experience, with a cap of $40,000/yr. Open until filled. Instructions to apply are below.

Responsibilities:

·         Hosts weekday broadcasts of local and national programs, including NPR's Fresh Air.  Provides continuity for weekday sound, including promotional, underwriting and some local news content.  Integrates national and local content seamlessly.

·         Writes and prepares news stories for the evening and morning local news broadcasts and for station website.  Fills in for News Director as needed, planning, reporting and presenting news during NPR's All Things Considered and Morning Edition.

·         Fills in for afternoon and morning on-air hosts as needed.

·         Engineers and produces local talk programs, acting as call-screener and frequently as editor and host, co-host or interviewer. Posts talk show content online.

·         Creates web and social media content daily.

·         Monitors equipment/transmitter performance and maintains transmitter/program logs, reports/corrects discrepancies and problems as they occur.  Operates station automation and log programs.  Performs studio maintenance, administrative duties and other tasks as assigned.

·         Assists Operations Manager in loading content into the station automation system.

·         Assists with editing and production of promotional announcements.  Writes and produces promos for various programs and program segments as assigned.  Participates in off-air promotional or fundraising activities as required.

·         Participates actively in on-air fundraising campaigns, including occasional weekend hours.  Acts as producer and editor for weekday midday fundraising.

Required Qualifications:

·         Excellent on-air skills, including confident, warm and conversational delivery.  Minimum of two years of experience announcing live broadcast.

·         Strong interviewing skills

·         Minimum two years of experience writing/reporting news for broadcast

·         Knowledge of broadcast operations and standards and audio production engineering

·         Strong communications (written and verbal), organizational, and interpersonal skills.  Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.

·         Proficient computer and keyboard skills; experience with, and adaptability to, different operating systems, programs and apps, such as Apple and Microsoft products, and Google cloud-based products; facility with non-linear editing programs such as Audition, Pro Tools or Audacity.

·         Quick decision-making and troubleshooting abilities.  Ability to work under strict deadlines and pressure.

·         Ability to deal with breaking news as it emerges, and to think quickly in times of local crisis

·         Familiarity and experience creating web and social media content

Preferred Qualifications:

·         Four-year degree in broadcasting, journalism or equivalent

·         Knowledge of the mission of public radio, and a track record of appreciation and dedication to that mission

·         Familiarity with radio automation systems
