Iraqi Insurgents Targeting Civilians
The commander of U.S. forces in Iraq says the insurgency is increasingly targeting civilians in what may be a strategic shift in tactics. Over the past week, eight American and European civilian aid workers were killed in three separate ambushes. Attacks against Iraqis working with the U.S.-led occupation have also become common. Sadr Moves into Najaf, Promises Violence
Radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr moves into Najaf in southern Iraq Tuesday, surrounded by supporters. In a statement, Sadr promised more violence unless U.S. troops pull out of populated areas and release all Iraqi prisoners. American officials have branded Sadr an outlaw. North Carolina Sen. John Edwards kicks off a three-day tour in delegate-rich California to garner support for the March 2 round of 10 Democratic presidential contests. Edwards courts new backing by lavishing praise on his one-time competitor for the nomination, former Vermont governor Howard Dean. NPR's John McChesney reports.

Kerry Rolls in Primaries; Edwards to Quit
Democratic frontrunner Sen. John Kerry is declared the winner in Ohio, Maryland and Massachusetts, leading to talk that rival candidate Sen. John Edwards will bow out of contention for the Democratic party's presidential nomination. Edwards credits Kerry with running a strong campaign as he thanks his supporters during a speech at his campaign headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia.

Iraqi Council Seeks to Revive Interim Constitution
Efforts are under way in Baghdad to revive the interim constitution that was supposed to be signed by Iraqi factions yesterday. At the last moment, five Shia Muslim leaders refused to endorse the document, to the embarrassment of U.S. administrators. A new meeting is set for Monday. Socialists' 10-Year Reign Ends in Greece
Greece's socialist leader George Papandreou acknowledges defeat Sunday as the conservative New Democracy party captures enough seats in the country's parliamentary elections to end 10 years of socialist rule. The country's new prime minister will be Costas Karamanlis, who faces the task of continuing Greece's preparations to host the Summer Olympics in five months. NPR's Sylvia Poggioli reports.
U.S. Battles Insurgents in Fallujah, Najaf
U.S. forces launch attacks on parts of Fallujah following the expiration of a deadline for insurgents to surrender their heavy weapons. The action comes a day after fighting near the holy city of Najaf that left more than 60 Iraqis dead. Hear NPR's Philip Reeves.

President George Bush makes a rare trip to the Pentagon to give support to his beleaguered secretary of defense, Donald Rumsfeld. As several prominent Democrats call for Rumsfeld's resignation over the Iraq prison abuse scandal, there is also some discontent among uniformed officials over Rumsfeld's policies and leadership style.
