There has been controversy about who fired first, and whether enough was done to end the siege peacefully. The most recent report blames Russian security forces.
  • London officials have charged 11 people in relation to a terrorist plot that officials say was meant to blow up airliners flying from Britain to the United States. Police say that in addition to the evidence that led to the initial arrests on Aug. 10, they have found bomb-making equipment and so-called "martyrdom videos."
  • Last week, the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in the case of U.S. v. $124,700 that Nebraska police were correct to seize money from a California man who'd been stopped for a speeding ticket. A drug-sniffing dog detected the smell of narcotics on the money.
  • By the end of the year, the emergency contraceptive called "Plan B" will be sold as an over-the-counter drug to women 18 and over. Currently, it is available only by prescription.
