Recently a world premiere took place at Cal Poly's Performing Arts Center, as part of the Wind Bands Winter Concert on March 3, 2018. The university's 65-member wind orchestra and 60-member wind ensemble, conducted by Christopher J. Woodruff, presented a program of music relating to a theme of "Earth and Sky."
Of the program's two premieres, Japanese composer Mutsuhito Ogino debuted a piece entitled "Concerto for Percussion."
KCBX's Greta Mart was in the audience, and afterward asked Ogino and soloist and Cal Poly faculty percussionist Dr. John Astaire to visit the KCBX studio to talk about the work, attached here in its entirety:
