Cal Poly Student Opera Theatre Presents ‘Venus and Adonis’ and ‘In the Market for Love’

Cal Poly Student Opera Theatre Presents ‘Venus and Adonis’ and ‘In the Market for Love’

The two seldom-performed one-act operas show how love can be found in the strangest of ways: John Blow's baroque tragedy “Venus and Adonis” is the story of ill-fated lovers from Greek mythology; and Jacques Offenbach's comic operetta “In the Market for Love” is a farcical story that takes place at a farmers market.

Nearly 50 Cal Poly students are participating in the production, both onstage and behind the scenes. In addition to the opera singers, the program will feature choreography by Theatre and Dance Department students. The performances will be fully staged and costumed with a chamber orchestra, and sung in English with supertitles.
