History Groups Present the Story of Black Coast Artillery Regiment in SLO County in World War II
Military historian Erik Brun will present “They Faced the Rising Sun: The 54th Coast Artillery Regiment on the Central Coast in WWII.” The 54th Regiment consisted of highly-trained Black soldiers, a story that unfolded here almost 80 years ago. Those attending can take a short walk to two nearby sites where segregated USO Clubs entertained Black soldiers in World War II, at 879 Morro Street, and on Higuera Street. The presentation will also be available on Zoom for virtual attendees
