From the towering redwoods of the northern coast to the otherworldly Joshua trees of the desert, California Trees takes readers on a journey through the state's diverse landscapes, highlighting the remarkable variety of tree species that call it home.
With his striking photography, humor, and botanical insight, Dr. Ritter will share the natural history of California's largest and most storied organisms. A book signing will follow the presentation.

The Friends of El Moro Elfin Forest (FEMEF) in Los Osos is the nonprofit responsible for maintaining the Elfin Forest, a nature preserve at the north end of Los Osos
For 25 years, Yolanda Waddell, a founding FEMEF member, has been the lead editor of our quarterly newsletter, the "Oakleaves" (Fall issue: https://www.elfin-forest.org/library/oakleaves/archives/2024-09.pdf). Along with other long-time editors, she will be stepping down after the Winter issue.
We are now searching for a new editorial team, including two text editors and a photo editor, but more help is always welcome. This could be a great opportunity for someone who likes writing, photography, or graphic design and enjoys the Elfin Forest.

Free skin cancer screening event. Early detection can save your life. Adventist Health Sierra Vista is committed to helping you be preventive in your health and will be hosting a free Skin Cancer Screening event in recognition of Melanoma Monday, a day focusing on skin cancer awareness. Attendees will be screened by a dermatology provider in a private space. Advanced registration is necessary.
