Literacy for Life trains community members to become tutors for adults 18 and older who need to either improve or learn basic English language literacy skills. Our tutors work one-on-one with a learner. We guide our learners to identify and reach their individual literacy learning goals. Some of our learners are speakers of English as a first language. Some are speakers of English as a second language. Our next tutor training will be held Monday, September 29 and Monday, October 6 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm.

Bookworms, assemble! Woods is welcoming animal lovers ages 7 to 17 to join us in reading to our furry friends. Shelter life can be stressful, and reading is proven to relax and comfort companion animals. Book Buddies will be held at our Atascadero location on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 pm and at our San Luis Obispo location on Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 pm.

Come play, explore, and connect with the natural world alongside the staff and friends of Wilderness Youth and enjoy hands-on activities and creative outdoor fun for the whole family including nature crafts, earth-based skills, and other interactive activities led by Wilderness Youth Project staff and other local community partners, like Yes Yes Nursery, who will be leading a seed planting activity.
This year’s Nature Play Day features a special collaboration with GRAMMY Award-winning musical group, the Alphabet Rockers, who will guide attendees in a collective songwriting experience to find your voice in nature through music and expression.

Calling all crafty, caring, pet-loving kids! Care Crew members will have the opportunity to join us in filling Kongs for our canines to enjoy in their kennels, crafting homemade pet toys, and creating art to help showcase our adoptable animals. Care Crew will be held at our San Luis Obispo location on Sundays from 2:00 to 3:30 pm.
Four Lanterns Winery host a Sunday Evening concert series every summer from Memorial Day to Labor Day, hosting a variety of community based bands and solo performers, along with a food truck each week. This is a great way for locals to end their weekends, and gather with friends. 10% of our concert proceeds go to select charities each year. This years charities recipients are ECHO Atascadero and Hope with I.A.N. Families are welcome along with well behaved pets.
