Central Coast fire engineer killed en route to Canyon Fire at Vandenberg Air Force Base
Crew members working Santa Barbara County's Canyon Fire were mourning the loss of a colleague Wednesday who died on his way to the fire scene.
The California Highway Patrol said the Ventura County Fire water tender hit a curb and overturned around 6:30 Wednesday morning on Highway 246 at Purisima Road, just east of Lompoc.
Ventura County Fire said Engineer Ryan Osler was a passenger in the truck and sustained fatal injuries.
Firefighters saluted Wednesday as they lined an overpass on Highway 101 in Ventura County. Osler's body was being transported with an escort on the highway below.
