Situated in the heart of the historic 18th & Vine Jazz District in downtown Kansas City, Missouri the American Jazz Museum shines a light on the epicenter of the roots of American Jazz.
In addition to more than 200 live performances annually, the museum offers special exhibitions, educational programs, fine art shows, and historical exhibits.
Come along and join the Jazz Museum’s curator Sonié Joi Thompson-Ruffin, Executive Director; along with Cheptoo Kostany-Buckner, Drew Brown from nearby St. Joe Missouri, and renowned fine-art master painter, Dr. Jonathan Knight for a journey of Discovery at the American Jazz Museum.
Highlights of the museum include four major exhibits of jazz greats, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, and Charlie Parker.
A mixing station allows visitors to create their own mix of sounds. Wee-Bop offers children a chance to learn about the swinging sounds of Jazz. The museum’s Blue Room hosts live jazz performances by jazz musicians four nights a week.
